My Fox AL: Texas couple says $15K of jewelry taken at Birmingham airport

A Texas couple says $15,000 in jewelry disappeared from their bags after traveling through the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. "My wife is devastated," Sundip Patel said Thursday via Skype. He says the way he views airport security and TSA screeners is changed forever. "It's basically put me in a situation where I have zero trust in checking a bag, ensuring everything gets to destination," he said.

Yup, 'cause TSA gets first dibs, the baggage handlers get what's left over.

They should have a BIG sign at all airports that say - "If you pack any valuables in your checked luggage there is no guarantee our employees won't steal it before you get to your destination. Pack at your own risk."

The sign should say -- "Baggage X-ray allows identification and localization of valuables in your luggage, making theft from luggage easier than taking candy from a baby (Luggage doesn't cry). Act accordingly."

Let the finger point between TSA, Baggage handlers begin, then they will wind up blaming the passenger.
