Probably won't be an issue, but I downloaded a copy of the .flv for safekeeping just in case Jon's domain gets seized a la Megaupload. Happy to E-mail a copy to anyone who wants it. Otherwise, just use DownloadHelper in Firefox to snag the .flv for offline storage.

How big is it? I'll be happy to transfer a copy to my server in Sweden.

Domain seizure isn't likely here -- that would put all of wordpress.com &/or youtube.com off-line. Just think of the negative feedback that would generate!

Also domain seizure by itself doesn't destroy any content. You just need to create a new domain, point it to the right nameservers, & then go to the control panel in your ISP account & tell it what directory to route the incoming HTTP requests to. Simple domain seizure (usually done by forcing the domain pointers to point to DHS or DOJ nameservers) just affects traffic temporarily until your users figure out the new domain or even just the numeric address.

I understand how you defeated the backscatter x-ray, but the video does not explain how the MMW failed to detect the metal object. In principle, wouldn't the 3-D image produced by the MMW scanner show any solid object (I would think that the metal case would reflect the radio waves) regardless of its position relative to the body? If it failed, I imagine that it is some issue with the ATR software; surely a human viewer would have seen the metal case.

I thought that ATR has been installed only on some MMW scanners, not all of them. The TSA is still "rolling out" (one of their fave phrases) the ATR software.

Thank you Jon! I remember reading this in an article somewhere, but a video is to go with the facts is great.

Mike, the file in 480p flv is 22mb. I have a mp4 file as well that is 28mb. I can shoot you a link to grab it from one of my locations if you want, just let me know and I'll PM it to you. :)

I doubt this is needed, but you never know with dimwit jackbooted thugs at the DHS.

I think this is showing that there is no f-ing excuse for porno-radiation machines. MMW is a different kettle'.

Any digitally simulated "3D-ness" of the MMW is still done by taking only 2 images: one from the front, and one from the back. No image is taken from the side. Have a look at the sample images provided by L3:

Honestly, I think the backscatter has a much better chance of catching something than the MMW.

Also, though the MMW I went through did have ATD, my assumption is that the ATD processing happens by processing the image (google for "edge detection"), not by processing data points, so if you can't see it in the image, the ATD can't see it either.

I agree with Jon on this explanation of MMW imaging. It is somewhat similar to MRI and digital x-ray that sort of "color in the lines" so to speak based on a known, assumed shape. Looking at the sample MMW images seems to me that this is exactly what they're doing. Also, the backscatter would have a much better chance at detecting "anomalies", but really it's dependent on the porno peeper in the pervert booth to discern what's on an image, which is why things like boarding passes and lint earn you a groping.

Regardless, not only is either technology an affront to the spirit of the 4th Amendment and general American ideals, the whole damn sham is totally ineffective. I've wondered this point for a long time. I've talked with others about it who have similar expertise to mine. We now have proof.

And Jon, you are my hero for standing up to this circus. ^
