What a surprise, another criminal working for the TSA. The only reason they let him go so quickly was because the media did the investigation and report. Anybody else finds this information, e.g. TSA, DHS, other gov. agency, and he would still be employed. They are hoping to appease the media to limit the news and try to cut it off quickly.

Confronted two weeks later by ABC News, the TSA officer, Andy Ramirez, at first denied having the missing iPad, but ultimately turned it over after blaming his wife for taking it from the airport.

The iPad was one of ten purposely left behind at TSA checkpoints at major airports with a history of theft by government screeners, as part of an ABC News investigation into the TSA's ongoing problem with theft from passengers.

As a wholly unscientific study, it would appear that "one in ten" is considerably higher than the TSA's claim of "
less than one-half of one percent of officers that have been employed."

Even if you assumed that each "lost" iPad out of the ten passed through the hands of five TSA employees, and only one was a thief, that would seem to be closer to 5%, not .5%.

(Of course, we're all too aware that TSA employees are bad at math - and reading clocks.)

Gizmodo: Yep, The TSA Is Definitely Stealing iPads

An ABC investigation has found what you might have suspected all along; if you leave your iPad with airport security, a TSA agent might just keep it for himself ... You almost feel bad for the jerk who stole the iPad when Brian Ross shows up at his house. Then you remember that this criminal is also in charge of making sure your plane doesn't get bombed by a terrorist. Since 2003, 381 agents have been fired for stealing. Lord knows there are countless more who are getting away with it, just like this agent would have if a team of investigators hadn't been tracking the iPad's every move. Horrifying.

Surprisingly only 1 of the 10 were stolen by TSA. Of course that A.S.S. blamed his wife.

Well, at least the TSA is consistent about their denial of responsibility.

Thanks to ABC's sting, Chuckie Schumer has found another photo op. Never get between Sen. Schumer and a camera.

ABC News Radio via East Idaho News: Senator Calls for TSA Theft Fixes After ABC News Report

Reacting to an ABC News investigation into theft by Transportation Security Administration officers, Senator Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., Thursday called on the agency to do random sting operations on its employees “to test whether TSA agents are acting in a trustworthy manner to protect passenger property.” Schumer’s request came in a letter to TSA head John Pistole and also proposed that the TSA randomly screen its employees at the end of the workday.

If Schumer could come up with one right idea during his Senate career, this might be it.

It's certainly the only right idea I've ever heard from Sen. Schmuk.

No, Schumer isn't right! TSA employees should be divested of all personal items when reporting to work and physically searched before entering and again on departing the checkpoints or other screening areas.

RB, as usual; you are correct. However, the best idea would be to divest us of the TSA?

Well if we can't get rid of them completely then I am in favor of a cavity check twice a day.

Are you volunteering to do their cavity checks?

Most dangerous place to be in the USA. Even more dangerous than between Mama Grizzly and her cubs.

Cavity check at the beginning of shift, mandatory butt plug insertion while on duty.
