ANC to get scanners by years end; my vacation plans on the rocks...

Well, this just blows:

So now I have to rethink things. My husband and I were booking a trip with two young kids tonight for a trip, assuming ANC was a non-scope-n-grope airport. They're MMW scanners, but I've still got a problem with them. If we leave in early January, there won't be much time to see how things are going at the checkpoint here, how to SDOO, how big of jerks the clerks become.

What to do? We haven't been out of this state in two years, and our Vit. D levels show it. Plus, my dad hasn't met my daughter yet, and she's 18 months old.

I just want to smack somebody.

 

Phoebe, I'm sorry for you. It was inevitable that the scanners would show up everywhere. There was never any question about this. There's too much money to be made. Just like they've already shown up in other venues such as courthouses. Just like the gropes (so far, not as invasive as at the airport) are already at football stadiums. All of this was predictable. I don't know what to advise; you have to do what you think is best.

 

Check out the ferry to Vancouver. One of your state legislators probably has the schedule memorized.

 

Ugh, I know, I'm thinking about it. Thing is, then I'd have to rent a car and drive to Arizona. That's a pretty huge trek. I talked a big game about taking the ferry back when I didn't have a trip planned, but I didn't have a job at that point that I have to get back to by a certain date. My husband will have to fly anyway because he only has a few days (and doesn't care as much as I do about the scanners). Plus, the thought of taking a 5 year old and an 18 month old on that long of a journey sounds pretty exhausting. But the thought is on my mind.
