    We had a smallpox vaccine for how decades? Why are we wasting half a $B on this?

    So the "security" industry can make money. And bribe our elected officials.

    This medicine would be for those who had already contracted smallpox. The vacine must be given prior to exposure.

    Doesn't answer why we need this medicine since the probability of a smallpox outbreak is exceedingly remote.

    And the vaccine still works for a while after you are exposed. We supposedly have enough vaccine stockpile to (re)innoculate the entire country. That would be > 300M doses.

    Wasn't trying to justify Obama paying off his buddies.

    If everyone is innoculated before an outbreak then all would be ok. Problem is that many people are skipping these meds. I'm not sure that routine Smallpox vacines are even given anymore.

    This med would only be useful for those who have not been vacinated and contracts smallpox and that is a very unlikely thing to happen.
