This Yahoo News article provides several examples of the growing police state other than aviation-specific ones:

The militarization of local police, the brutality of SWAT teams, the data security and digital surveillance issues, all are related to the aviation-specific offenses that have brought us together.

I wasn't sure if this was the best place to post this article for discussion. Might I suggest a forum topic that is targeted at civil liberties abuses beyond the aviation-specific? I suspect that many of us are interested in other civil liberties issues, and paraphrasing what Ink has eloquently said elsewhere, the TSA skirmishes are battles in a larger war, of which these other activities are part.

I also adopted a convention that I saw CelticWhisper do in another thread of heading the title with [Article], which I think is a good idea for content communication purposes.

We do have a "Civil Rights" subforum where this might fit nicely. I think it's still without discussion right now, too, so it wouldn't hurt to populate it.

I went there and tried, but couldn't figure out how to start a thread under the Internet Resources/Civil Rights tree; the 4 existing subs under it are direct links to organizations/websites (and yay for that!).

Those are links, e.g. to ACLU & EPIC, no forums. Let me think about how best to integrate this, meanwhile you're in the right place!

It's now a real Civil Rights forum open for discussions, as are the Security & Travel area.
