You a nice guy? Usenet? Isn't that where a lot of the really depraved porn addicts hung out?
Ronnie, sorry to burst your bubble, but Usenet was porn riddled. Some of the techie sites back when usenet was up and running said to avoid it like the plague due to computer viruses and the chance of stumbling across stuff that could get you thrown in jail. I never went there, but you sure did. Sort of reminds me of the joke where a guy come running into work with a double handfull of dog poop yelling "look what I nearly stepped in..."
Nice try though. You have no fans here. No one likes either you or the agency you say you work for. No one believes a word you say.
That's an unfair description of the Usenet. It provided the message boards of its time on a wide variety of subjects. Microsoft Outlook even supported Usenet as well as email into the 2000's. Porn was buried under the "alt ..." listings. If you didn't want it, nobody forced you to go there.
Up to the mid 1990's, the internet was mainly a text interface, not the graphical HTML interfaced that we know today, and Usenet was how people communicated and interacted.
If you ever run across someone whining about "bottom posting", odds are he used to read Usenet at 300 or 1200 baud.
Heh, I used to catch up on my subscribed Usenet newsgroups in Outlook on the plane. Trying to find an airport payphone with a dataport not clogged with chewing gum could be a treat sometimes, though.
