I wonder if this is what comparison TSA uses when it says that screenings are in line with what is performed in other parts of the world?

To be fair, this story involves Customs in Australia, so we'll move this to a more appropriate forum...

the question is, what is so g-d d*mn important to CATCH, in this unending stupid game of "gotcha", that you would subject a human being to this in cold blood? It's not that important. And the damage here is so profound. Yet this happens also to US citizens coming into their own country as well....

Power. Control. That's the name of the game.

And yes, it also happens, routinely, in this country. Usually to people who have little to no means to fight back afterwards. Back when I flew, I was always keenly aware that I gave up all rights when I came back to this country, when I passed through Customs and Border Patrol. I knew they could do anything -- anything -- they wanted. I always treated those guys with the utmost seriousness.

The ACLU has had (maybe it's finished now?) a class-action suit against CBP in I forget which city, because CBP at the airport there routinely targeted black women flying alone for strip-searches. This (expletive deleted) goes on everywhere. We just rarely hear about it.

This whole state security /war on drugs/war on terror/say something, see something is just all part of a whole message from the security state, and that is "Turn off your mind and trust us." A lot of people are perfectly willing to do that.
