I think I'm angrier about this article than I am about the TSA infiltrating everything. I just said this over on FT:

I'm reading this and I'm shaking with fury.

    This is what we've become.

    Scared (expletive deleted) pussies.

Americans used to be proud. Stand up for themselves. Mind their own (expletive deleted) business.

Now. OH MY GOD, HE'S READING ABOUT AIRPLANES!!! HE'S A TERRORIST!!! HE'S A TERRORIST!!! HE MUST BE STOPPED!!!

Give me a (expletive deleted) break.

When are we going to storm Washington DC and take back our country? When are we lighting the torches, marching with our pitchforks, and saying enough is enough?

This poor man just wanted to fly to his destination. Now, because someone got scared, that ONE PERSON disrupted 80 people's days, over NOTHING. Even that cop was like, paraphrasing, you called me for this?

This is sickening. It is time to retake our country. If not, it surely will be taken from us, comrades.

My apologies for the blue language, but there's no other way to convey the sheer anger I have reading this article.

Well, if you see something, say something.

That's exactly where "see something, say something" will lead. Anyone who thinks otherwise should tour the Stasi Museum (free admission) in Berlin.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, please use meaningful, descriptive thread titles. "Boiling blood" probably describes half the threads in here.

Also moving this to the "other" category (people issues) since it doesn't involve checkpoint screeing. We don't really have category for airline stupidity.

Most of the men I know have reading interests similar to his. "See something, say something" is a train wreck without end. I politively loathe Janet Napolitano for "See something, say something." Trouble is, I'm not sure it's her fault.

"See something, say something" makes me nauseous ever time I read about it. Literally, I want to puke.

We have got to get these fascist fruitcakes out of government in 2012.

I'm no fool. This happened because the man was a black man. I don't rule out the chance as an older gentleman he may have had grey hair and looked vaguely like an Arab. I suspect some fool thought only white non-Arab people should be reading books about airplanes. And here's the money quote by the policeman:

Too much of this and you will break down a civilized society.

Perhaps they were afraid that he would use a Sopwith Camel to terrorize commercial aviation at his final destination. Since the new BDO protocols are not yet in place at IAH (it being a forgone conclusion that the test program at BOS has been an astounding success), they were unable to ascertain his intent by watching him twitch as he answered a few hard-hitting questions:

What is your occupation? I fly Sopwith Camels. I'm going out on our first contract since 1918.
What is your final destination today? Dulles.
What business do you have in in our nation's capital? Keeping the airways safe and open for single-engine biplanes. That's long been a concern of mine.

Sorry, didn't see that particular group - I even looked because it didn't make sense to put it where I initially did.

I'm so tired of hearing about paranoid UA FAs. It's been ten years since 9/11; plenty of time to move into other work, find a sugar daddy, or whatever. Just stop subjecting the traveling public to your stupid fear.

I have a Flight Operations Manual for a 737, maybe I should bring that along on my next flight for some light reading. Oh, wait a minute, I'm a white guy so nothing will happen.

What's worse is that this won't be the end of it for this fellow.

His name is on reports someplace. He's no longer officially 'squeaky clean' and there's no way he ever will be again.

I just found out about this from a folk music group director here in Baltimore. I've seen Vance Gilbert many times, most recently a few months ago. He is a light-skinned black man -- therefore, "Arab-looking" or "Muslim-looking," therefore "dangerous" to so many of the racist morons in this country. You know that's what many people on that plane, in addition to the clueless FAs, were thinking.
Vance also happens to be the gentlest, sweetest man. I am so disgusted.

    P.S. to Mike Mey:
Well, I've been working steadily on this, and we are planning to storm Washington DC on October 6th:

"See something, say something" was around long before Napolitano's reign of terror (no pun intended). I remember seeing "SS,SS" signs on CTA trains as early as 2002, though memory may be a little bit cloudy.

At any rate, I'm 99.9999% sure it originated in the bowels of the Bush II Administration.

Well, since it's an occupation and not just a demonstration, we're staying for . . . who knows how long? We begin on Thursday, October 6th, and go until whenever. So you can join at any time. It all depends on whether/when/for how long the police start arresting, how many people come, etc.

Lisa, once I get my business up and running I will absolutely be donating money. Unfortunately I can't be there physically, otherwise I would be.
