Why do you call Rugape "West"? Do you know him? Is that his first name?

West - Hi, my name is West, and I started with TSA in February of 2005. I work at GSO (Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, NC) and truly enjoy working at my airport. I was hired on as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) and have since been promoted to Lead Transportation Security Officer (LTSO). I have worked as an On the Job Training (OJT) Monitor, and have been training new TSO’s since my first year with TSA.


I live in Greensboro, NC with my significantly better half Charlene, Jacob and Esau (the two cats that actually own the house), and Montana and Darwin (the dogs that are a pair of walking comedy reels).


Prior to working with the TSA, I put in 8 years with the US Army as a Military Police Officer. I also put in 8 years as a Silversmith Apprentice and am now a Journeyman Silversmith. My hobbies include sitting on a pier/boat with a fishing pole and being able to fix broken metal things.

 

What a shame. I like silver and I admire the skill of people who create handcrafted things. Too bad I'll never be buying any of his crafts.

 

Also, every time I see his name I silently pronounce it "ROO-gah-pay." Okay, probably my heritage. But just occurred to me -- should I be saying "rug ape"? And why that moniker in the first place? Is there some cultural reference here I'm missing?

 

I pronounce it the same way (ROO-gah-pay)in my head. I googled it and am seeing definition synopses from Urban Dictionary but clicking the links takes me to a "not yet defined" page.

Okay, so a grown-up rug rat. I hate it when people call children rug rats. But if Rugape wants to call himself an adult version of that, so be it. It's a free country. Sort of.

 

Me too, I much prefer Linoleum Lizard.

 

I like Knee-Biters, myself, but would never refer to my almost-three-year-old grandson by any of those terms! (He's special, ya know! )
I always mentally pronounce rugape as rue-GAPE, but rug-ape is more apropos to his career choice...just sayin'...

 

Rug-ape is the way I have always pronounced it, and it is a running joke in the family.
