Boston Logan upgrading to privacy-enhanced body scanners

    Wonder how much extra this cost taxpayers? More importantly, what was the impetus behind removing the x-ray based porno cancer boxes and replacing them with ATR MMW versions?

    Seems there is more to the cancer risk and/or privacy concerns than TSA is telling us. Maybe the cancer clusters reported at BOS last year played a role.

  2. May be, if Rugape's stats convince you. Or maybe not, if you listen to most anybody else who has gone through a security line lately. And certainly not, if you trip the randomized false positive. Or, you know, sweat or something.

    So are we to conclude that the backscatter units will be going the way of the puffers? Or will the units from BOS be moved to another airport?

  5. I'd also like to know how many of those "criminal acts" were drug related.

    ETA: And how many criminal acts (thefts, etc.) were perpetrated by screeners against passengers during the time period the statistics cover. Just for argument, we can even leave out all the criminal acts that are legitimized by the TSA as SOP, like gropes. I still bet it's more than 55.

    If cops randomly stop citizens on the street and question them, and the citizens play along and don't retain their right to remain silent, I am sure that the police will be able to find reasons to arrest a handful of those citizens.

    Oh, wait, the NYPD already does such stops.

    For what it's worth, the SPOT program at Logan was supposed to be a pilot program begun last summer. But it's clear there were never any true metrics for deciding whether the pilot was successful, a conclusion that was a given from the start. TSA rationale: there were no attacks originating from Logan over the past ten months, so surely SPOT worked.

    Surprised to see the Rape-Scanners leaving BOS. I'll feel much better if I have to opt-out and stand in proximity the machine.. The feeling that Ionizing Radiation is coming out of the BKSX in all different ways really creeps me out at ORD.. Luckily I've gotten Pre-Check the last few times, so I have been able to scoot past the scanner real fast..
