He's been mayor for something like 20 years and had previously said that this was his last term.

Good. Maybe Boston will elect someone who cares about the Bill of Rights next time. I won't hold my breath though. They're Yankee city folk, a subspecies of American which seems (expletive deleted)-bent on using the Constitution for toilet paper.

Cities are such mixed entities. While I love the lack of small-town, everyone-knows-everyone busybodying ("Why weren't you at church last week?"), the general "I'll leave you alone if you leave me alone" paradigm of interaction with other folks, and the ability to be essentially invisible in plain sight, they're way too willing to surveil citizens and curtail right in the name of safey-safey-safety. Granted, it's worse in the UK with their CCTV cameras everywhere, but I remember the increased security(-theater) last year for the NATO summit here in Chi-town. Load of (expletive deleted) if you ask me.

Still want to retire to some quiet corner of the Pacific Northwest when my years grow too many. Pity Twin Peaks isn't a real place.

Re: picture of someone entering a boat. I knew someplace I'd seen a mention of the photo of a person climbing into a boat that was allegedly captured on CCTV:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ner-finds-suspect-Dzhokhar-Tsarnaev-boat.html

I still don't think it's him as the tarp is too shredded. I also don't think it's him climbing out as he was, from all accounts, too seriously wounded to climb out.

And although I can't find a link, I saw a news report that he'd written on something while in the boat, words to the effect that "his brother was with Allah, why couldn't he be with Allah" which could have been a suicide note written before he shot himself.

Five people were shot and killed overnight at an apartment complex in Seattle.....is that quiet enough for you?
    (sarcasm and being a smarta**)

    Not really, no.

Maybe somewhere in or around Newport, OR. Was there a few years ago and it was great.

I currently live in the Pacific Northwest - moved here 22 years ago and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Seattle has become infamously fascist, and they definitely have their share of freelance criminals on top of the state-sponsored tomfoolery.

And the abusive behavior of the Seattle PD is notorious.

Getting back to what happened in Boston, there was a 20 block area in Boston that was apparently searched AT GUNPOINT. Copious videos on youtube show police and agency personnel doing house to house door knocking and removing everyone out at gunpoint, with their hands over their heads outside, where they were frisked.

Unreal destruction of civil liberties here. Unprecedented! If there were exigent circumstances, that would be one thing. You cannot have this apply to a 20 block area!
I'm praying for civil lawsuits here.

UK Daily Mail: How much did homeland security know about dead 'bomber?': Officials suspended 26-year-old's citizenship request over FBI interview
    • Homeland Security had put a hold on Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev's U.S. citizenship application because of 2011 FBI interrogation
    • Lawmakers have blasted the FBI's handling of Tsarnaev case claiming the agency should have done more
    • Russia tipped FBI off to potential terrorist links but he was found to be clear of 'terrorism activity'
    • South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham said agency 'dropped the ball' on several fronts

This sounds like B.S. Your passport info has to be submitted as well, or you don't fly. They would have to miss multiple clues to miss this completely.

Washington Times: FBI missed Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Russia trip because of misspelling, Sen. Lindsey Graham says

The FBI did not know that Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older Boston Marathon bombing suspect who was killed following a firefight last week, took a six-month trip to Russia because his name was misspelled, Sen. Lindsey Graham said.

Mr. Graham, a South Carolina Republican, told Fox News Monday that he had spoken to an assistant director at the FBI about the agency’s failure to monitor Tsarnaev after interviewing him in 2011 after a tip from from the Russian government that he could be dangerous. Late Friday the FBI said it found nothing “derogatory” after that initial questioning.

“He went over to Russia, but apparently when he got on the airplane, they misspelled his name, so it never went into the system that he actually went to Russia,” Mr. Graham told Fox News.

On another note, what's the big deal about Russia? The U.S.S.R. is dead, and many parts of it are now solid western allies, a few even part of NATO. Russia itself will evolve over time.

Our company has a subsidiary in Russia, I have co-workers that that I work with on a regular basis, and they often come here to work & training for extended periods of time, and sometimes we go there (not I, personally, since my work connections are even closer to colleagues in Sweden & India).

    They're people, just like us.

I'm hard pressed to see why a visit to Russia is worthy of notice.

And despite the heavy-handed & illegal police actions, they failed, flubbed, fell flat on their faces.

After the police state failed to achieve the desired outcome & gave up, the perp was found by a private, unarmed citizen.

true, but if Russian authorities tell you some guy was seen in Chechnya in the company of a known militant, that should be acted upon, IMHO.
Maybe the FBI spooks though they were talking about the Czech Republic :(

Kerry Sanders, NBC, was reporting all heck breaking loose when the cops had a guy, wearing a turquoise tee shirt, face down on a sidewalk and at gunpoint for about 20 minutes on Friday.

Yep, I can hardly wait for the lawsuits to start.

  18. Ketchikan is nice. A little everybody-knows-everybody, but you can also be more anonymous there if you want. It reminded me of Twin Peaks, actually. It really is pretty much a far north suburb of Seattle.

My dad crewed a boat in Ketchikan after WWII. Always wanted to go back and had nothing but good things to say about the town and its people.

Never mind that 99% of the people so abused bore absolutely no resemblance to Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

InfoWars: Shocking Footage: Americans Ordered Out Of Homes At Gunpoint By SWAT teams: This is what martial law in the US looks like

Shocking footage has emerged from Friday’s lockdown in Boston, where police, federal agents, national guard troops and SWAT teams enforced door to door searches of everyone’s home within twenty blocks as the entire city was placed under orders to stay off the streets.

The video, shot by a resident from their own house across the street, shows police barking orders at men and women as they order them at gunpoint to identify themselves, put their hands on their heads, and get out of their own home. They are then ordered to run down the street to be further frisked by police as scores of armed militarized cops look on.
