Is private screening new for K.C., or are they just changing contracts?

HSToday: Security Firm Receives TSA Airport Security Bridge Contract Despite Bid Protest Loss

FirstLine Transportation Security of Cleveland, Ohio, received an award for a 12-month bridge contract for private security screening services at Kansas City International Airport while the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) evaluates proposals for a contract award under the Screening Partnership Program (SPP) at the airport, TSA announced Monday.

The award was delayed due to a pre-award lawsuit filed by FirstLine Transportation Security, protesting language TSA included in its original solicitation for private security services at the airport. To cover the gap in services, TSA awarded a sole source bridge to FirstLine valued at $27 million.

KCI has been private screening for years. My guess is that the contract is up and another vendor bid the next contract term.
