Bye-Bye Miss American Pie: Soldiers sing pop song as they slaughter

American forces are busy little bees, at home and abroad, but they don't forget to take time out for art. That's right, it's never the wrong time for a little song and dance, as these soldiers reveal in a leaked video, where they bomb a group of Afghans, while singing "Bye, bye, Miss American Pie." Who says we don't value the arts in America?
And, of course, we have the usual "this doesn't reflect our professionalism" blah blah blah statement from the higher-ups. Gee, never heard that before.

I'd be ok w/ this if the Afghans were carrying Don McLean's album. My Freshman roommate only had 4 albums, and I'm still sick of American Pie 40 years later.

Actually I'm ok with it anyway. Lacking any evidence that those Afghans were innocent (odds are that they weren't), this report is little more than whacked-out left wing propaganda.

You should listen to the commentary of the video Wikileaks released where a group of Iraqis were gunned down from on high in Bhagdad, and a vehicle with a child in it was also destroyed. Pretty chilling and without any human compassion.

Do you expect them to spend a few minutes kneeling in prayer & say a bunch of Hail Marys?

I'm more concerned when they return home & become cops & the 'tude continues.

Unbelievable, Mike, how you defend everything the U.S. does abroad, while rightly decrying what it does to immigrants, even if they're illegal, here at home. With your logic here, all the guys you post about who are jailed or killed by CBP are probably not innocent. "Odds are that they weren't." And where do you get your odds??

You just won't admit what even the frigging State Department has admitted -- that all these drone attacks and bombing of civilians are not only wrong (how you can defend slaughtering civilians I'll never know), but are actually creating more "terrorist" sympathy.

Here you have an actual video, but it's only "whacked-out leftwing propaganda."

What would you do if your family were killed by a drone? Whistle Dixie? (expletive deleted), you guys brag about "popping" or putting a bullet into cops left and right in these forums.

Right, because American lives are worth more than the lives of those dirty foreigners.

Indeed. Just where *do* all these people, drone operators, heli pilots go when they come back? And where are their bosses who knowingly authorize such things? They're still here, running *this* country.

Nice overly broad generalization, and your response goes downhill from there. I don't defend everything the U.S. does abroad. At the same time, I don't lap up every left-wing whine that comes my way. You need to remember that I grew up with the military, a lot closer to doomsday than you will ever imagine: My father wore a key around his neck, and the odds were 1:4 it would have been his voice on the recorder giving the "go code". Some soldiers have jobs to do that defy comprehension.

As long as the soldiers in the helicopter were doing their job, what they say or sing while they're doing it is none of your concern. Lacking any evidence that that the engagement you described was actually a war crime, you're just whizzing in the wind. If you actually expect to have a positive impact, you need to focus on real issues and not try to sensationalize what in all likelihood was a proper & well-executed engagement.

So, where's your evidence that the Afghans were actually innocent? Your insinuation of "may or may not have been doing anything illegal" doesn't count for much. Were there any investigations? Disciplinary actions? Courts martial?

Now that you mention it, this is a great example of "whacked out leftwing propaganda": Find a video that shows something you don't like, add a few inflammatory presumptions, and then expect people to suck it up. The problem with that is that you're only playing to your own audience.
