NSA just trying to keep us *safe*:
The NSA's phony national firewall proposal
A firewall would only be used to censor material on the internet.
The question is who decides what gets censored?
This is ludicrous, and simply not possible. Private companies with dedicated point-to-point lines will bypass it routinely.
The same private companies that installed NSA hardware in their server farms?
Normal companies that do business internationally. The company I work for has a worldwide intranet.
Skype was banned from our computers because their TOS permits them to route other users' traffic through your computer, and we can't have unknown/unvetted traffic through our network.
Additionally, all of our hard drives are encrypted. The only way customs would get access to mine is if I cooperate and boot the laptop for them. It you take the drive out & try to use a USB-ATA adapter card on it, it won't work.
Also don't forget the 3G/4G work across borders, and then there are satellite links ....
WiFi can go across borders as well. With one of these at each end 25+ miles.
