A man suspected of being drunk posed as a security screener at San Francisco International Airport long enough to direct a couple of women into a private booth for pat downs before real security staffers caught on to him, authorities said Wednesday. Wesley Matsuura of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Authorities are investigating whether the man should be booked on other counts, such as false imprisonment. Matsuura would ...

Federal law enforcement agencies on Wednesday were investigating the strange case of a man accused of impersonating a security officer at SFO and patting down a female passenger in a private security room. SFO's alleged fake screener is a high-powered financier

Law enforcement sources tell us the incident started when Slighton entered the security area wearing khaki pants and a blue polo shirt - an outfit that might have been mistaken for those worn by screeners with the Covenant security firm.

In fact, according to one source, Slighton was filmed by a surveillance camera milling about with other security screeners for about 40 minutes, and at one point helped himself to a pair of the blue, disposable gloves that the workers wear.

Eventually, Slighton steered a woman into one of the private screening booths used to pat down selected passengers, our sources say. What happened inside isn't known, because the woman, who was Asian, soon disappeared to catch an international flight. A few minutes later, Slighton allegedly directed a second woman toward the booth, our sources say. This time, however, he caught the attention of real screeners, who figured something was wrong because male screeners are prohibited from taking women into the booth for a pat-down without a female screener also being present.

Covenant screeners detained Slighton until San Francisco police officers arrived. Because officers couldn't find any women who had actually entered the booth with the fake screener, they booked Slighton only for alleged public drunkenness.

    ...

Besides facing the public drunkenness charge, authorities say, Eric Slighton could be booked on other counts, such as false imprisonment. However, the case has largely gone hush-hush since the federal Transportation Security Administration, which oversees airport security, took over the investigation into how the breach happened.

Accused airport security impersonator not charged

A passenger accused of posing as an airport security agent and taking women into a private screening room will not be prosecuted. Eric Slighton, 53, was arrested July 15 at San Francisco International Airport after being seen motioning women into the room where private pat-downs are conducted, authorities say. "Officers determined that Slighton was exhibiting the signs and symptoms of public intoxication and placed him under arrest," according to a release from the San Mateo County Sheriff's office. The district attorney reviewed the case and determined there was not enough evidence to convict Slighton on any charge. "We don't know ...

There are no cameras inside the small rooms, and there is no local statute against impersonating an airport security screener, she said. Simply being drunk was not enough to prosecute Slighton either.

Son-In-Law Of High-Ranking Hong Kong Politician Won't Face Charges For Allegedly Impersonating TSA Agent At SFO

When high-powered finance guy Eric Slighton was arrested at SFO after allegedly impersonating a TSA agent and luring women into "private screenings," officials hoped the women he pulled aside would come forward so he could face charges stronger than the public drunkenness and "suspicious occurrence" ones they initially slapped him with. A month later, however, the women have not come forward, and Slighton, who has connections at the very top of Hong Kong's government, will not be charged. As previously reported, the 53-year-old SF resident had a ticket to Hong Kong when he was allegedly seen "waving at and entering" ...

A few days after Slighton's arrest, the South China Morning Post reported that Slighton is married to Audrey Tung, the daughter of Tung Chee-hwa, Hong Kong's first leader after the transfer of Hong Kong's sovereignty from the UK to the China in 1997.

Fake Security Screener Highlights a Concern

THE man wearing a blue shirt and khaki pants stood casually inside a security screening area at a San Francisco airport terminal. As security officers and passengers bustled, he pointed to a woman and took her into the private screening room. Later, he pointed to another woman, and she followed him in as well. The man, despite also wearing the blue latex gloves used by screeners, was no professional officer, said John S. Pistole, the administrator of the Transportation Security Administration. He was just another passenger with an international ticket.
