Get out your air sickness receptacles, here it is: H.R. 495, the See Something, Say Something Act of 2011. Yes, that's its REAL title. Bottom line what this bill would do if it became law:

I figured there was such a bill but that your reference to "see something, say something act of 2011" was a bit hyperbole.

    :trash:, it's for real. :(

Mike, check out the link, it's official. This is 100% really the name of the bill. NO :trash:!

I already did check it out, before I posted the last response. :(

There is no point in becoming re-depressed.

Oh, sorry, I didn't read as carefully as I should have. Nice use of slogans as legal doctrines, no?

Is this :trash: a surprise to anyone on here? Lots of people are welcoming the police state with open arms.

I don't know if printing off the woman's (who was strip searched) blog and sending it with a letter to these clowns asking them to withdrawl their legislation would do any good.

I have however been coming to grips with the reality that I may have to bail on this country and move my family elsewhere in the future before the police state noose gets so tight that we will not be able to leave.

myadvice, If the country ever starts requiring exit visas, that will be, as Ian Welsh puts it, the red line. That will be the definitive, irrefutable, don't-care-how-many-people-refuse-to-believe-it mark of a full-fledged police state.

If effect they already require exit visas by denying passports to those who are behind on child support. The slippery slope has already been greased.

    Despicable, indeed.

There might be a silver lining though. I just looked it up on Thomas - use Thomas to find bill text and status. The bill was introduced in January of this year, and nothing has happened with it since February.

Oh BEEP No! People have to be liable for their errors, so they will be careful. There needs to be "an abundance of caution" when setting in motion the abuse of another citizen's constitutional rights.

But Elizabeth wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? :td:

Seriously, I wouldn't expend too much energy on this right now. It hasn't made it out of any committee and it has no co-sponsors. Right now it looks, dead, dead, dead.

    HA!

I'm a firm believer in seeing the body. Right now there's some serious doornail action going on, but like vampires and like zombies, these bills have a habit of rising from the dead. So even though it looks dead right now, doesn't mean I won't be checking in on it periodically. ;)
