Expect more national embarrassments like this:

Is this article for real? Surely it must be a spoof. If it isn't, and DHS is really this stupid, then we are really in trouble.

This confirms that the feds are monitoring social media and using that information to harass people. Homeland Security really is the American version of the Stasi, with the technology updated to 2012.

DHS = Dumb & Horrendously Stupid or Dept of Homeland Stupidity. Dont you just love the english langauge. So many words with so many meaning its not even funny, but leave it up to DHS to make a mountain out of non-issue/incident

I wonder if the DHS goons would get all bent out of shape if the guy asked them for a fag (cigerette - so there are no misunderstandings).

It's for real. Not a spoof. Good. Just one more nail in the coffin of tourism. The more people turned off by travel to this country, the better. Thanks, DHS.

It is a national embarrassment. The reps from LA should be asking for comp tix for this couple and a massive apology, bring in State Dept, etc. Thank goodness they suffered no physical harm.

This makes the cupcake incident look almost rational in comparison. A wonderfully hilarious poster-child for DHS spying, eagerness to terrorize tourists, and profound stupidity. Like something from Get Smart.

I hope this leads to much deserved mockery. Let Chief Napolitano explain in public.

It confirms what I've always suspected about the DHS. Napolitano is criminally insane and her goons suffer severe paranoid delusions. These people have no business wielding the slightest bit of power. I wouldn't put them in charge of a parking garage, much less the "security" of our nation.

It is reassuring to some degree that these buffoons are too inept and transparent to run an effective police state. That will make resistance a lot easier.

And Obamabots wonder why Rio got the Olympics and Chicago got the finger.

Who was it that said USA/England are two nations divided by a common language?

Remember folks, these are the people who are too intelligent for TSA...

They should have known better than to mess with DHS stupidity.

    From USA Today
One Irishman's Twitter humor was no joke to U.S. Homeland Security, which deported the bar manager and his travel companion pronto last week in Los Angeles after he tweeted about coming here to "destroy America" and "diggin' Marilyn Monroe up," according to British newspaper reports making the rounds.

point taken. but Mike, I can't help but put myself in the shoes of that couple. Off to the states, after a considerable expenditure for travel, looking forward to taking in the sites, then handcuffed and rammed into a jail cell upon arrival. Imagine what that would feel like if it happened to you. For something as incredibly nonsensical as this. I cannot even imagine this. Even the Soviet bloc didn't do this to tourists. Make no mistake. We are getting extremely close to whatever the end game is going to be. These kinds of completely irrational moves have to be understood as indicators of our society basically flying apart. People have lost the benefit of reason. They are clueless. And they are dangerous.

Can't remember if this was ever posted at TUG; I read about it before I joined:

Visa-blunder Britons locked up for 5 weeks in the U.S. for staying beyond 90 day cut-off
Needless to say, they're not coming back. Way to go, USA security goons!

This country disgusts me - we've officially become the evil empire. I can't even look at a US flag anymore without feeling revulsion in the pit of my stomach.

    I do not love America.
