It is simply amazing to me how DHS just plows ahead and does what it wants no matter. Why do they even bother to go through the motions of asking for input?

The DHS poses a greater threat to the United States than terrorism could ever hope to. We have created a monster.

Yeah, but a lot -- an awful lot -- of people in this country went along with it. And are just fine with it even now. They don't know their Martin Niemöller and they don't care. As long as "we're safe" from "The Terrorists."

Such people have never challenged authority in their lives. They pretend they're all for "democracy" and "freedom" and "American values" and blah blah blah. But they've never put their money where their mouths are. They don't care that Other People get harassed, arrested, detained. After all, they're Other.

DHS is required by law to have a privacy evaluation by its internal lawyers of various things it does, and I have read a number of these. At no point has there ever been any serious objection made to anything they want to do. It's really a joke, where they pretend to be concerned, but this is just to allow the program to go forward.
