The imperative to use these oh-so-hackable flying machines on the domestic population--for safety of course--is such that the FAA in being asked to clear the airspace for them.
    Cha-ching!

    Doh!

Read up on RNP & NextGen ATC. Almost all commercial aircraft will in effect be drones, although some will have cockpits with human backups. Overall it will be safer & much more efficient.

I'm more concerned with local Deputy Dogs getting their hands on drones and doing things their own way. You know, the bozos who can't remember week 1 of Constitutional Law and who forget that once a guy's in cuffs you're not supposed to pepper spray him or knock out his teeth, the jerks who kill people with impunity in unnecessary high-speed chases. We need to keep them grounded. They already have too many toys.

Perhaps our TX cadre can confirm this, but I believe a spy drone was already shot down by a citizen in TX?
It was not being used for traffic reporting.
What is the use of a drone? Spying and then 'neutralizing'?

Citizens are fighting back. You can now design/buy your own drone. We talked about this in another thread a few months ago.

Wasn't there a demonstration where the demonstrators used their own drone?

If it flies above a certain altitude, it's subject to FAA controls; below that is pretty much a free-for-all.

    AtlanticWire on the OccuCopter.
But what's coming are more DHS toys for local law enforcement:

Poll says Americans aren't exactly excited about the idea ...

Rasmussen Reports: Voters Are Gung-Ho for Use of Drones But Not Over the United States

I believe theres been a couple shot down. Down on the border and then one in the Dallas area that I know about around superbowl week last year in the area of elm fork gun range (insert sporting clay joke)

Not like the govt will admit the drones were shot down for being nosey, but thats besides the point.

Unaffiliated voters are those most strongly against domestic spying, 59%.
The "Political Class" supports it by 61%, :td: but I am heartened by the belief that they are outnumbered.

Everyone knows the 30,000 drones are not for use on infiltrators at the border. They are for *us*. The government is flat out scared of the people and it is beefing up the security apparatus accordingly, to oppress them, just as non representative governments have always done to their people.

yeah. I've got no rpg's, no stingers. Look folks, if you cannot win in Afghanistan using these methods, where you can do anything you want, but your butts are still getting kicked if you venture out of the safety of your bases, how in the heck can you win in America, where your hands will be tied, not the least of which will be by armed forces that at some point will refuse to fire on fellow citizens. The love of liberty may be suppressed and hidden in many people, but it is there, and it is going to overwhelm you like the rising tides.

You're barking up the wrong tree with those drones. Really. It's failed everywhere abroad and now you want it fail here.
