I'm not looking forward to my trip to Toronto this weekend. I travel to Canada on Business dozens of time a year, and it's the same old crap.

After the IAH TSA verifies that my Testicles are safe to fly, I board the plane for Cana-duh.

At Canadian Immigration, it's the same old song& dance. "What can you do that one of our people can't do?" My reply - "Obviously, my presence indicates that your people have failed, and have called me here to help."

First, I need a work permit. $150.00. They ask if that bothers me. I tell them No. The Fee is charged to the Canadian Company. Then they tell me that I'm putting a Canadian out of work. No -*you* are putting 10 Canadians out of work. They're waiting for me to get the line running.

Then I'm told to sit and wait. I tell them OK, at $120.00 an hour + Expenses, I'll wait till the cows come home. After a while, I'm cleared and free to go. My wait time has been as little as 2 hours, and as much as 3 days. I'm allowed to go the the Hotel for overnighters, but have to be back at the Immigration Office by 8:00am.

Canadian Immigration is as arrogant as TSA, except they're not interested in my crotch. And people wonder why the economy is falling apart.

Why do you need a work permit for a business trip?

I'm a Field Service Engineer. My Company builds printing and packaging machinery. I'm sent to install new machinery and to troubleshoot & repair existing installations. Most of my calls are emergency breakdowns where I have to get there fast, and get the machinery running.
