It's becoming impossible to keep up with and comment at all these "be scared!" stories. I've had that article open on my desktop since last night, along with a dozen others, hoping to comment, but oy, what a deluge.

As we at TUG all know, these odious teams of authoritarians are coming/have come to thousands of transportation hubs besides airports. Even the frigging Cape May Ferry has had them! Zapping passengers -- unknowingly, I might add -- with x-rays. Have link to article in my files. Will dig up and post later.

At least one cruise ship has been hijacked before by terrorists, one recalls the Achille Lauro incident. Of course unlike most airplanes, one could always board a ship by force after it had sailed, hence the profession of piracy. I suspect this K-9 thing is also capable of drug detection, probably no coincidence.

No doubt in my mind. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw k9 and TSA used in the same title.

My suspicion is you'll find Customs involved in this somehow. I don't think TSA has much of a dog program, other than naming puppies after 9/11 victims.

They run a K-9 training program at Lackland AFB.

I had read about that, but I think that the number animals they've trained is very small relative to the overall responsibilities of the agency.
