Firefighter vs Critter. Critter wins.

We have an uninvited guest in the station. Neotamias minimus, which the county day crew has named "Theodore" because he's currently living under the refrigerator in the county day room.

This afternoon after getting back from a call my driver discovered Theodore hiding in the collection of H tanks in the squad bays and decided to send him out into the rain and cold. Well, after opening two of the bay doors he flushes Theodore out with a broom, failing to note that the door to the decon room is open. So now Theodore is cowering in the back corner of the backboard closet.

After removing backboards and setting them up to provide a "guide" to the great outdoors, my driver once again flushes out the poor critter, who wisely heads in the right direction hugging the walls. Unfortunately the door to the radio room has no bottom gasket, so guess where Theodore ends up?

After repositioning backboards, once again with the broom. Theodore, being no dummy, promptly runs through one of the handholds of the backboard and makes a daring dash back to the county crew day room, where he is once again living under the refrigerator.

You have to wonder about your crews when a damn chipmunk can outsmart a firefighter...

You should adopt him as your mascot.

If he wasn't leaving chipmunk turds all over the place, we probably would.

Right now we're looking at have-a-heart, though the discussion between getting a large cage and shipping him to Five Rivers for release is still ongoing.

Chipmunks love peanut butter. Try making friends.

I wonder if he would use a litter box.

Not likely but that little one might start chewing on hoses & lines as well. If that happens some on a fire (inop hoses) with bugles gonna get mighty ticked and it would be down hill quickly

You could get him a setup like for the guinea pigs or hamsters... Take up a collection and have him housed in a small gymnasium setup in the break room, designated those that support the idea to clean and feed him, then have him a little helmet made. Then he could truly be your mascot and have pretty decent treatment while you were at it.

I was just kidding. Ideally, of course, he should be freed.

Let me fix that for you:

It'll be cheap entertainment for you & the kitty.

The suggestion has been made. No one wants to clean up the blood/guts.

Actually the driver in question is an EMS LT this year. I'm just an EMT.

A good cat always leave it on the steps for its master.

He likes pumpkin seeds and banana, according to the day crew.
