411 Mania: Flaming Lips Singer Wayne Coyne Shuts Down OKC Airport Because Of Grenade In His Luggage

TMZ reports that Wayne Coyne shut down an Oklahoma City airport after packing a grenade in his carry-on bag. The grenade wasn't live but Coyne still packed it in his bag on November 10 and set off an alarm at the TSA checkpoint at Will Rogers airport. TSA shut down the terminal while officers tried to figure out how to proceed. The TSA did not have any "bomb guys" on duty, according to the police report ... The grenade resulted in several missed flights and wasted money ...

9 News: Police: Flaming Lips Singer Knew He Had Grenade At Airport

A police report shows Coyne knew he had a grenade in his bag but told TSA someone had given it to him at a party and it was "dead." The terminals were closed and many people missed their flights while TSA investigated.

  3. Um, I have to ask then... what if there had been a bomb? Did I miss something? Do these newfangled bombs wait to "go boom" until somebody gets called in?

In most cases I have heard of, if there is no TSSE (read "bomb guys"), then the airport defaults to the LEOs on scene, and if they feel there is ample threat, they use their local EOD protocols to take over.
