Fortunately our philosophy at TUG is quite different from FT...we encourage spirited debate and unless there's a sound reason to coach a member, we will not. Most likely our coaching involves copyright or clarity issues, otherwise have at it.
I won't. I have several of these projects, not just TUG. If you try to work with people and treat them as people, you can accomplish a lot more with a lot less. TUG happened because users "over there" were being disciplined and harassed by moderators for whom moderation had become an end in itself and (for some) a full-time preoccupation. Their response was to increase the number of moderators from 3 to 9 in a show of farce that would make swarming TSO's envious. It culminated when squeakr decimated Mark Lyon's thread. Thank you, squeakr! We love you for that here. Our best recuiters have been their own moderators. Despite her current pretense at openness, essxjay has been anything but. My own communications with her were answered with a statement of her expectations of me. Further communications with the powers that be "over there" yielded a retort that, "It's never cool to call out a mod" -- this after essxjay posted several time in violation of her own "posting rubric". Their current reorganization is being done with no public input & no talkboard discussion or vote. The consolidation of the Delta/NWA & United/Continental forums and the archiving of their existing forums required extensive disscussions. TS/S is being reorganized by fiat with the same arrogance that its moderators have traditionally shown to its members. As I said, I just hope they continue doing what they're doing. I couldn't ask for a better arrangement.
If anyone recalls I asked essxjay a question about Blogger Bobs status as a FT member and was promised she would look into that. Still waiting! Seems all FT wants to do is censor people for anything they disagree with.
Hmm. What counts as a Practical TS Issue? I think I'll just stay on TUG, as opposed to joining a TSA love fest.
Yeah, that's what it appears to be to me as well. Lets control the message, decide what we want to show, and squash dissent. Very much like the old USSR.
I'm all ready sure I don't like the new format - the warnings and "do what we tell you" and the "Zero Tolerance" vibe I get from the Community Administrator leave me with a nasty taste in my mouth.
Arguably one of the most helpful posts to result from flyertalk was this: http://www.flyertalk.com/the-gate/blog/6267-was-andrea-abbott-arrested-unfairly.html After that was posted, Andrea Abbott articles vanished from mainstream news. The TSA lost its last vestige of credibility over that incident. If that one fruit of flyertalk didn't lead to the current heavy-handed censorship at Flyertalk, it certainly served as a catalyst. As long as the TSA debate was made to seem "she said - he said", the DHS fascists didn't feel threatened. When the TSA's side of the public conflict was proved to be utterly without merit, well that was another matter. I can't prove it of course, but I'm confident that the TSA chose their current public relations tactics because it was at roughly that point that their "leadership" finally realized their overt and escalating abuse of citizens was an "epic fail".
In retrospect, "TSA goon" does seem redundant. All employees of the TSA qualify as "goons." TSA "enablers," on the other hand might as well be called "paranoid little sheep."
You have to find your way to the new forums. I continue to be highly amused at the continuous amateur hour "over there". Thanks -- we try.
I did. I wasn't impressed, and I'm not happy at all with the threats about adherence to the TOS And you succeed.
We seem to be picking up new members at a slightly faster pace now that they've had their "grand reopening". What's odd is that it's on a holiday weekend when things usually tend to slow down a bit.
I never posted over there, but I lurked for awhile. I saw two things: 1. Great resource for TSA news. 2. Confusing to use. I could never figure out why certain things got moved and others didn't. I never did figure out what OMNI was. I'm not going to sign up over there, but I may check it once in awhile. I'm psyched that you guys put this place together. It's well-organized and even though I'm still learning the ropes, I'm really liking it.
