Flying for Job Interview, Required to Provide Date of Birth

Tomorrow I will be flying to a job interview in a distant town. One point that struck me as interesting was that the HR person needed my date of birth in order to book the ticket. I suppose that this is a TSA regulation. I believe that, normally, it would be illegal for the company to ask me my age, but that protection is completely nullified by such a rule.

It is needed it to purchase your ticket. Aside from TSA and airline regs they need to confirm that you are an adult before they wind up transporting a minor out of state. The option would have been to offer to purchase the ticket yourself and have them reimburse you afterward, which is common practice in the private sector.
