Don't count on it getting too much louder, pal. It's quiet for a reason and airfares ain't it.

There has been all manner of pressure on airlines making a profit. Most are just getting by but TSA may be the one thing to put some majors out of business.

Human nature is pretty d*mn predictable. You make something difficult and painful (in addition to expensive), and humans will avoid it. Of course the TSA sex abuse and strip searches and gate rapes are depressing traffic. A lot. It is cumulative. I started flying again, but the way things are continuing with ETD, gratuitous sex gropes, and now with sex gropes at the gate, I've stopped. We'll monitor this, expecting some changes according to SATTSO, but so far, all the changes I've seen are really bad ones. The Denver escapade with full body gropes at the gate and use of cattle fences for the pax AT THE GATE was simply the last straw. Right now, I wouldn't intervene to save the life of any TSO clerk. They are complicit in turning our country into a sewer.

The article contains a nice plug for TUG by Bill Fisher:

    Thanks, Bill! :)

Noticed that - way to go, Bill! And in the NY Times, no less - decently high-profile.

OH MY GOSH - did you see this (in that article that's linked here): Under the new guidelines, children 12 years old and younger will be allowed to keep their shoes on and may be allowed to pass through scanning machines multiple times to resolve anomalies. According to TSA, the new guidelines will reduce, although not completely eliminate, the need for a subsequent pat-down.

Well, that's just what a growing body needs! Repeated exposures to great amounts of radiation! If the radiation exposure in these machines is so nominal, why don't they allow the TSA lackeys to wear dosimeters? Why does my dentist trot out of the room when he does a DIGITAL dental x-ray, which uses much less radiation than these machines?

    Color me suspicious.

Every time I read words to that effect I'm filled with fresh horror. In what universe is this an "improvement?"

    It's a public health nightmare.

You mean like not having a requirement to change gloves between victims?

I keep wondering when we're going to hear about the cover-up over the MRSA or other disease pandemic caused by one screener at one airport failing to change their gloves.
