This is what we came home to around midnight on June 29, no power in the house and this mess in the alley where our garage had been the day before:

A couple kids in a stolen car drove into the garage early Sunday morning, knocking it off its foundation and spinning it out into the alley with the side split open.

Usually I leave the VW in front of the garage. Luckily I put it behind the gate out of harm's way when we got the truck out to go to our cabin Saturday afternoon.

Wow, I hate that for you Mike, hopefully you can rebuild it better. I am glad to hear you and yours are ok, just upset over the situation!

Received a letter from the county prosecutor's office that they have filed five felony charges against these punks. :)

The charges are burglary, attempted burglary, motor vehicle theft, damage to property, and fleeing an officer.

At least they have insurance right? ;)

Car thieves thoughtful enough to take out a liability policy? I would wish!

I really was kidding - besides no insurance I know of covers a deliberate act. Good luck with restitution though.

The way many of the restitution payments are set up now, he might actually get enough to buy a burger or two a month for the next 15 years. Maybe you can work something out with the Judge where he has them released from 8 in the morning until 6 at night to come over and do manual labor on the new garage... Or would that be considered cruel and unusual punishment?

Remember that three of the counts are for burglary, attempted burglary & auto theft. I don't want them anywhere near my house!

Hehe, you could sit on the back deck with a shotgun across your lap, that may convey an understandable message.
