In the first stop he's on thin ice. Court decisions allow them ask if you are a U.S. citizen. Since he refused to answer, I doubt there'd be any repercussions if they decided complicate his life or at least make him cool his heels for a while. In the 2nd stop it appeared they were trying to divert him to secondary inappropriately without asking if he was a U.S. citizen. Eventually he implied that he was (let slip out "my rights an an American") which may be why they allowed him to continue. At a TSA checkpoint the perverts would quickly swarm him & start the intimidation game. He was driving a VW (probably Beetle) with the near-useless sun visor removed.
I love this guy...just wish there were millions more like him on the roads, in the airports, sporting events, etc. I love this guy!!!
More passengers at the airport like him refusing to knuckle under to the Gastapo and maybe we'd see some big changes. He is a true American! Why can't my daughter find someone like this guy instead of the nitwits she winds up with - oh, maybe too much information, sorry.
The video was pretty good. no histrionics, not too much anyway. Just letting them know what he thought, as was his right, of being checkkpointed three times that day being delayed 23 minutes!!!! at one in the stupid long lines.
This video proves there is no valid reason for this nonsense and that the "checkpoint" idiots don't even know why they're there.
He was great! You do realize though that the only reason why they let him go was because they ran his license plate number? You can hear them discussing it in the background.
It’s a common police trick–fudge a statement so the citizen thinks he just heard a police command, but, technically, it was only a request. Here the police say “Do me a favor … and go over to secondary screening.” Most of us think, “Oh well, something I have to do … don’t want to disobey the police.” The driver doesn’t fall for it–he is quick to reply, “No thanks – I want to be on my way.” The police try to up the pressure–after all, it works all the time!–but here it fails. Knowing they don’t have a valid legal basis for a detention, the police let this citizen go on his way. The root of the problem in this situation is the policy, not the police officers caught on camera. The police in the video were told to set up a checkpoint and screen drivers and passengers for citizenship. They were professional and followed their training. When their training trick didn’t work, they gave up fairly quickly. It is good that this driver is asserting his rights and showing others how to do so. For additional background, go here.
