Hijack a plane? There's an app for that!

So, while TSA is fondling your genitals and electronically strip searching you, a hacker claims to have developed an app that can take control of a plane and crash it.

He apparently only wrote the code to work with simulators, but well, in the wrong hands the scenario might be much different.

What he did was purchase 2nd hand avionics equipment and play with it.

My guess is that the vendors had backdoor 802.11b/g (wireless) accesses for testing & maintenance purposes. Very dumb move on their part.

There was a similar issue unovered recently with industrial control equipment & ethernet ports that exposed them to internet access.

The airplanes I crewed are by no means modern by today's standards but on/off switches worked well.
