Off to DFW in the morning. Have little doubt that the ASSes will try my patience. Will be ordering an adult slushee at Fat Tuesday's by lunch time for recovery purposes. You guys have a good week.

With any luck, that'll be the worst of it. Hopefully you won't have any of your belongings stolen or damaged by the blue-shirted thugs and idiots of the Thieving and Stealing Administration.

    Sounds like a plan.
Saw your update re: MMW. When I went through SLC my pose included a middle-finger salute with each hand. Frowny faces from TSOs.
Then at the conveyor pick-up TSO flipped open the top of my carry-on, and sheafs of my file papers spilled to the floor (I neglected to zip closed the inner cover pouch). Several TStandingAround got a hearty laugh as I scrambled to collect my financial and other personal paperwork from the floor and path of other travelers.
It is HARD to find a-holes like that in SLC. They must all work for TSA.
    Good luck RB.

It's not all that hard to find a-holes in any city with an airport. Just look at the TSA checkpoint.

Just got back from a biz trip from SMF to PDX and back. For me, the first trip thru SMF or PDX since they got the MMW. The machines at SMF must be dialed down, as very few were being rubbed down afterward. Very few men, mostly women getting their hair felt up, some back frisks. Coming back thru PDX, it was a lot more dialed down that it was back in 2011 when I was there where they were in a frenzy rubbing people down right and left, using the WTMD. I went thru the D/E checkpoint, where with a modest backlog of pax, they opened up a WTMD and in I went. I saw one opt out and spoke with him for awhile after he got his feel over.

In contrast to SMF, Portland had a very high percentage of pax getting some type of brief feel, mainly pocket feel over, some shin, some back, lots of women's hair, arms, sides, never saw any crotch stuff, just one breast feel around/frisk. About 30% of that was caused by pax wearing belts and jewelry with stuff in their pockets.

The TSA seems to have backed down/dialed down a LOT since they've got all the bad press. With the exception of one churl who sourly answered a question of mine, the retail behavior of the clerks has significantly improved since the last times I went through. Maybe the message is getting thru, maybe the bad apples are getting fired, or maybe it's just springtime.

The negatives: three clerks wandering side-by-side through the shopping areas/gate areas, looking out of place, useless, and unwelcome. It would help their cause immeasurably if they just walked around one at a time so it wasn't so transparently an intimidation factor (that doesn't work, btw, as these people will scare NOBODY). One at a time, they can see what they want and they don't intrude so much. That's what the New Zealanders do, and it works well, IMO.

Another negative: because of their capricious and hideous ETD testing, with 100% false alarms, I have to make backup plans on both ends, as I will not pay the price of a genital feelup as the result of these bad tests, just to get on a plane.

Is it really an intimidation thing, or is it that they feel safer in groups after the Honolulu assault, since they all know full well that they're incapable of defending themselves from the people they grope?

Back in the real world. Cleared LAS TSA security yesterday afternoon. What a complete CF which seems to be the TSA norm at LAS. The only bright note about the whole thing was that we were directed to a WTMD line, apparently having a walking impediment was the reason. The x-ray operator, a 3 stripper, was the cause for a long line that barely moved. She was taking a very long time, 30+ seconds to look at each image. That and the xray image monitors were positioned for easy viewing by all. Gave me time to watch other screening lines. Strip Search Machines in use for most of the other lines, about 5 seconds for a scan and then many pat downs followed. No way these things are faster or even effective as a screening protocol. I believe that the whole TSA screening paradigm is faulty. Two many people, to much senseless procedures, no supervision as evidenced by having a Supervisor operating a single piece of equipment. I did not see any ETD testing and come to think of it I don't recall even seeing an ETD tester in the lanes near me.

I think TSA takes our $8 billion in tax dollars and squanders it because TSAhas no idea of what they are suppose to be doing or what real security is.

The simple existence of the "Behavioral Detection" voodoo program confirms your theory.

One can only hope. I wish for the day when anyone wearing a smurf shirt outside of an airport gets the genital assault they've been forcing on us inside the airport.
