Much of the misery of the world has seen since the beginning of time can be traced to those believing they were doing God's work. Pistole is perpetuating that.

This weekend's Wall Street Journal has book reviews of several interesting books, one of which includes an analysis of "show trials" through history, from the Spanish Inquisition to Guantanamo incarceration. Doober's observation is definitely part of the theme.

Another book they reviewed is a history of the War of 1812, including the relevant observation that James Madison conducted that war with resolute respect for the Constitution and for republican principles, without resorting to sedition. Too bad we have abandoned that precedent.

Frankly, that's a dumb statement. Even religious people are human and fallible. Even the Pope is fallible 99.999% of the time, and we non-Catholics are free to question that other .001%. Moreover, you've insulted Stalin, Lenin, Hitler & Pol Pot, among others.

I regard Pissy as not only fallible but evil. Religion is not relevant.

Thank you! I knew I'd read some interesting ideas about the Inquisition and our current state of affairs but for the life of me could not remember where.

It shouldn't be relevant, but it is, because Pistole has made it so. When you go around claiming you're doing God's work, then your religious principles are part of the discussion. And, in this case, part of the problem.

This fills in a couple of missing pieces for me - particularly his inability to back down on anything. He believes he's doing god's work.

It's safe to say that TSA would not be the answer to the question, "What would Jesus do?" Thanks for posting this, Lisa.
I don't doubt Pistole's zealotry, but I wondered if he simply was working off a different agenda, one that's not the same as checking for potential terrorists/bomb material. It serves industry to have a constantly moving target, an ever-expanding market. But from the standpoint of why this agency is allowed to balloon without meeting its most basic objectives in any logical way, by bureaucratic measures, it indicates something else is up. If he's fueled by his sense of the divine, he's a perfect crusader for an agenda. Just saying that if the agenda is not as stated, he may be a 100% willing liar for the cause.

It's one (expletive deleted) of a leap from Pistole claiming to do God's work (or whatever excuse the douche bag is using today) to "much of the misery of the world has seen since the beginning of time". Sorry, but the statement that kicked of this thread at at the top of this page is hyperbole & bull:poop:.

I read that fluff piece on Pissy ages go. I think some of you are having a major "anti-organized-religion" moment.

It boils down to what I feel are the two major flaws in the Protestant religions (salvation through faith alone and predestination), which together help to absolve you of any ultimate responsiblity for your actions. Note the word "ultimate" -- you still have to answer to the civil authorities here on earth ("render unto Ceasar ...", etc.) for your actions.

These are still good people (as good or bad as any other) who make the same day to day decisions as anyone else, and they answer for them just as anyone else.

He's not a Christian. Degrading and humiliating other human beings as he has done at the head of the TSA is not compatible with that belief system. He is an apostate who has rejected the requirements of his faith in exchange for his position and career. I hope he answers for this in this life.

This is so creepy. Pistole irradiates countless citizens, exposing each of them to heightened risk of cancer, and calls it Christian ministry. He puts his goons to work sexually assaulting us, stealing from us and spying on us, and calls it Christian ministry. He acquires dangerous, ineffective equipment with our tax dollars, and calls it Christian ministry.

It sends me scurrying to my Bible for explanation and solace. I find none. He's a viper.

Pistole is doing God's work just like the CEO of Goldman Sachs, Blankfein, who used the same expression to justify the obscene theft and fraud that Goldman Sachs had committed, deliberately packaging batches of bad mortgages to sell to pensions and then betting against those bad packages. That is choice.

To paraphrase the old 70's Jesus freak song (Gene Maclellan:
"put your hand on the gland of the man who stilled the waters..."

He can wrap his abuse in any cloak of excuses he wants - any claims to spiritual moral rectitude fall on my deaf atheist ears, and if he claimed some other grand cause than religion I'd see right through that too. I know what he is - a power-hungry fascist and potentially (probably) a psychopath.

Talk is cheap, Reichskommissar Pistole, and it's a moth's whisper next to the thunderclap of your actions as TSA Chief Terrorist.
