you didn't miss much. nothing new about that awful bill, just some stuff about demonstrating on the 5th of November.
the congress can pass no law that explicitly goes against so many provisions in the US Constitution. It is invalid in itself. So there is ample cause for states to interpose if they wish. Is there any desire to do so? Or has an illiterate population, illiterate in terms of knowing their own country's history and constitution, of knowing anything about their birthright, has this generation effectively lost the constitution and its protections?

I hear you. Except that if Anonymous holds a "demonstration" on 5 November 2012 it's not going to be anything that can be anticipated, managed or prevented by the goober-mint. Further, no one will suffer so much as a chipped nail. Anonymous knows how to make their point.

I wouldn't agree with their tactics if our government wasn't so far gone to fascism, graft, moral depravity and stupidity. Something needs to be done. Anonymous can't fix it alone, but they can bring attention to the problem.

It's not just a younger generation, nachtnebel. Most of my friends -- in their 30s, 40s, and 50s -- are clueless as well. It's not that they don't read the news, know what's going on in so-called current events, it's that they're apathetic. Their principles and moral outrage extend only as far as standing around at cocktail parties. And that's IF they even have any moral outrage. Mostly what I sense is "ho-hum, what are you going on about now, Lisa?" And a lot of rolled eyes.

It's the same old same old "It could never happen in this country."

I'm incompetent at technology, so I can never participate in the doings of Anonymous. Alas. Because I'm totally on their side.

And now that admission will just be added to the list.

And the House just passed it. Senate still has to vote. Obama (as of this post) has said he won't veto it. :(

For starters, we have a LOT of "nay" votes to cast next November. Unless you go over a legislator's voting record with a fine-toothed comb and find out that s/he has consistently voted for the preservation of civil liberties, let's oust every last one of the motherfuckers. Would love to see the looks on the career politicians' faces as (D) and (R) alike are all thrown out on their asses.

I am SO with you on this.

In my fantasy world, we impeach all who voted for this travesty. And we impeach the members of the Supreme Court who started it.

You think the Kettles may be catching on? The treasonous scum in DC are going to be tarred and feathered when the Kettles realize what's been stolen from them.

these measures smack of desperation. I can't help but believe these folks, in addition to simple greed and lust for power, are afraid. They are putting in these measures to protect the ruling class against the people. When has that ever worked? Over in Syria, Assad is killing thousands, has absolute power, and yet, his butt is toast. He'll be killed or fleeing in a matter of weeks. You cannot frustrate the will of the people to get rid of you forever.

"May you live in interesting times." is not a blessing. It is a curse. I do not wish to live in the times these evil, foolish men have created. I fear these greedy twits are even as we speak sucking the marrow from the bones of the goose that once laid all our golden eggs. Yes, right will prosper in the end, but at what cost?

Just saw a tweet from the ACLU - here's the text of the tweet:

"The Senate just passed NDAA, 86-13, with indefinite detention provisions included. Tell President Obama to veto --"

    ACLU, my hero.
HA! He's not going to (betcha a million dollars?)Reddit comment:
Wash your hands, sit on the sidelines, vote for a cat, condemn us all.

He won't veto. He said he would and he lied. He won't veto.

We're condemned anyway. And I for one haven't been sitting on the sidelines. I've been screaming about this (expletive deleted) for years. It doesn't matter. Because our political representatives -- from both worthless parties -- have done this to us.

The NDAA passed with overwhelming support. Overwhelming. And SOPA will probably do likewise. That's what our representatives think of us. As serfs to be kept silent and beaten back.

It's all the educated morons is this country, who have sat on their asses for so many years, who've ridiculed and dismissed the warning bells, who've helped get us into this mess. I hope they get their comeuppance. Unfortunately, we'll all be getting it with them.
