Is TSA just another airline subsidy? by BILL FISHER on FEBRUARY 17, 2012 This is so good. By our own Bill Fisher, an expert in statistical analysis. I just finished editing it. Please go over and comment, and spread far and wide. Facts, facts, facts -- they are aplenty here.
James C. May, past president of the Air Transport Association (now known as Airlines For America), has not been shy about being pleased that the costs of security has been shifted towards the government. I also believe they have been pushing for LASP in back channels, to make General Aviation a less attractive alternative to commercial air travel.
What's the status of LASP? That article was from 2008 and the last paragraph notes that there was to be a supplemental Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in 2010. And it applies to hot air balloons???? Wow.
We're expecting an updated proposal any time now. I think it was under review by the Office of Management and Budget last fall. There were over 8,000 mostly negative comments submitted on the original version. General Aviation has an excellent grass roots advocacy bloc. EAA has really done a good job in explaining the "camel's nose under the tent flap" aspect of this, because it doesn't just affect bizjet operators.
Great article! I emailed this to my reps. All in all, a very busy week of emailing, probably nearly 20 to each.
Not really, all I've heard is some talk about the TSA looking at cargo operators. Lisa, thanks for explaining LASP on the comment area, I didn't stop and think that my hyperlink to the EAA page would be stripped. Wow, I've really made this thread drift.
