If a person is suspended on FT is so indicates under the user name.

I don't think it was any one single comment that got me kicked out. While I understand that I might get sent to the time-out corner from time to time (I think I've been sent to time out four or five times), I was truly stumped that whatever it is I did would result in such a final decision. But that's ok. If that's how they want to run their playground, they can have it.

I look forward to more lively discussions in here!

I was officially "warned" but never suspended but the warning was enough for me to be officially done with FT nonsense.

How odd! I hadn't seen any post from you lately that would warrant a suspension or a lifetime ban. I wonder if it was a "cupcake" reference? Although there were so many "cupcakes" flying around that I wouldn't even hazard a guess as to who used it much less who used it first. And it's not exactly the most egregious thing said over at FT. Strange...

In any case, welcome! I'm sorry you were banned. While I am somewhat distrustful of those who post claiming to be from the TSA, I understand that in order for dialogue to occur, all parties need to be at the table. I am glad a reasonably reasonable TSA employee is willing to entertain such dialogue.

No, I'm not really a tin-foil hat wearing type, but I'm a bit wary after being told that I'm ignorant or stupid or the like by a couple TSA employees on the other board.

Bart, you can get your avatar picture here. :p

Seriously, welcome to TUG! :)^ There are some things you and I agree on, and I enjoy debating the things we don't.

This is my first day here. Things are getting a bit strange on FT since Randy left. I too have almost completely stopped flying until the TSA abuses stop. I used to fly in excess of 75,000 miles per year. Not anymore...

However, there is another more insidious form of discipline which has no public indications -- locking (or "masking") you out of a specific forum. And yes, they do exactly that. Your friends will just think you've lost interest & left. :td:

    Hi Lisa,
I checked startpage.com for information about TSA and Amtrak to get the information. Startpage is a search engine that does NOT keep track of our IP address whenever we make a search. It works by acting an an intercepter between us and Google, so that our identity remains private, supposedly! They do claim it is private though, and we receive the benefit of a full Google search. Anyway, I discovered that TSA does work at the trains and bus lines as well, though they only did 8,000 searches in all of last year.

I also saw the video where people were searched AFTER leaving the train. What kind of craziness is that?? How could it be anything but agents exerting their misplaced "authority" over innocent people? Oh yes, I'm very skeptical about the motives of those in authority these days...

By the way, I'm really new here, so I don't know about the banning of "that other place," nor what FT is. I did post for the first time under the subject, "Kicked Out of FT," but it was a first time error. I'm just so darn happy to find you guys that I wrote my post without realizing what the subject matter was. Finally there are others who have the same sentiments I have! My family and friends completely disagree with my anti-TSA (translating to anti-flying) position, viewing me as rather off balance. Maybe I'm really sane after all. :)

Oh gosh, RKG, you're really making a drastic change! 75,000 miles a year? Hooray for you for standing up to your principles. I actually rarely fly, so it's not as big a sacrifice for me as for you - though I'm likely as appalled and disgusted as you are. Another fact that just floors me are the many who PERMIT indignities and assaults like this upon themselves, and even upon their own children. What are they thinking!

That can work both ways. Remember star_world, who is masked? Although I do miss exchanges like when he derided me for posting an anti-TSA piece from FoxNews.com. I then pointed out that the content of the article was from the Associated Press. Good times, good times. :D

No problem, and welcome! :) FT is FlyerTalk.com, where most of us come from.

I'm cross-posting the above since it seems relevant here; hope you don't mind.

There is a undercurrent at FT wishing to minimalize the Travel Safety/Security forum. Note this post by a mod and TalkBoard VP in the current thread about whether off-topic posts should count in one's overall post count:

If, as others have recommended, posting games are moved to their own forum with those posts not counted, I would support counting posts in OMNI-fluff (OMNI minus P/R). I can see an average value of more than 0.5 there. OMNI P/R? Not so much. Travel Safety and Security, also not so much. So my preferred setup would have three non-counted forums: Games, TSA discussion, and OMNI P/R.

Odd thing is, I voted for this person when they ran for TalkBoard. My overall view is that there is plenty of room on the internet for similar forums. Randy starting MilePoint earlier this year is a good example of "moar is moar". Right now though, part of me is thinking if they want to send TS/S off to some sub-forum, fine. Moar for TUG. :D

Exactly. My former colleague udontknowme was disappeared from TS&S over a PM exchange with a moderator --- no notice, no indication of suspended under his name on other forums, no response to appeals. He's pretty much given up on the other place as a lost cause --- which takes a lot, because, in the day, if you needed the mission accomplished, you gave it to him. Of course, I don't think he just eliminates the opposition anymore.

The TUG  just doesn't convey how  this is. RP could never figure out how OMNI fit into his life, now Talkboard is devoting itself to the eternal question of whether or not OMNI posts should count. It's beginning to sound more like the Constitutional Convention where they decided that slaves counted as 3/5 of a person each. It took another 78 years & a civil war to figure that one out. So now they want to ascribe 1/2 post per OMNI musing ...

Can somebody tell me what purpose TalkBoard serves other than to make certain people feel "cool" because they're on TalkBoard, whatever the (expletive deleted) it does?

Here at TUG we decided early-on to abolish the postocracy. We also short-circuited the new member/member, etc., garbage by using "member" as the moniker for each level. There was a consensus among the founders to change "likes" to "agrees" but that requires far more template/phrase changes than I'm comfortable with.

Are there actually people fixated on their posting count?

Yes, that's how the OMNI "games"* originated, also why "that other place" has a rule against "post padding" & why their moderators are forever annoying people by merging consecutive posts.

*I will not claim to be innocent of such frivolities. :D

That explains some of the weirdness. I had no idea why consecutive posts generated such a trauma-drama. I played along, but couldn't for the life of me figure out why anyone gave a steaming pile about them.

I can't believe I'm posting about this goofy stuff. I haven't thought about FT and their epic silliness in weeks.
