As we discuss so often here, impunity leads to more crime. If you're allowed to get away with murder, other people around you see that that's the case, and they might become more inclined to commit murder. A sense of lawlessness pervades.

Israel's only chance at survival is good relations with its neighbors, impossible as it sounds. As it stands, the minute US subsidies to them stop, the game is up. They have gambled their future as a country on the assumption that US power will never falter. Bad choice.

We see this everywhere. It's the impunity that's the problem. When soldiers and/or LEOs commit crimes, they must be charged and prosecuted. Internal investigations with followed inevitably by exoneration cause "unfortunate incidents" to become patterns of abuse.
