Thanks to Carlos Miller @ Pixiq for pointing this recent court decision regarding fair-use. It doesn't fully apply to us since we are not a non-profit (never mind that we have yet to make a profit) but the extent to which the plaintiffs got totally creamed is amazing. Chronicle of Higher Education: Long-Awaited Ruling in Copyright Case Mostly Favors Georgia State U. Much of it revolves around how the publishers make their money from a work and how a claimed copyright violation impacts that. That's pretty good news for typical forum & blog posters given that our impact is likely to be positive as we don't disrupt sales, plus our links drive traffic to the publishers. The full text of the court decision is here: http://www.tc.umn.edu/~nasims/GSU-opinion.pdf However, at 350 pages, I won't be uploading it.
