    It's going to be a fun year. The best we can hope for is for an army of attorneys to follow each convention and do their best to make it an expensive proposition for the locals. When the liability insurance becomes too expense to fund, local governments will rethink their participation in these charades.

    At RNC '08, St. Paul was optimistic that the total tab would be under the $10M liablity umbrella. I haven't yet heard if they succeeded; the lawsuits are still in the courts.

    If I'm an insurance company and learn that a city I cover is hosting something like this, the first thing I would do is have my mathematicians run the numbers to see how high to raise the rates. Either that or drop them from coverage.
