Sun-Herald: Former TSA employee convicted of murder in co-worker's killing (Mar 7 2013)

Ruben Orlando Benitez, a former management-level official for the Transportation Security Administration, will serve life in prison for the September 2011 stabbing death of a co-worker at her D'Iberville home. Authorities said Benitez's co-worker Stacey Wright was stabbed 12 times. The stabbing occurred, authorities said, after the two got into an argument at Wright's home at Landmark Apartments in D'Iberville on Sept. 17, 2011.

    ...

At the time of the killing, Benitez of Jackson, was the TSA's assistant federal security director for screening in Mississippi, a TSA official told the Sun Herald in 2011. Benitez joined TSA in November 2002, and Wright started working for TSA in September 2002. Wright was killed shortly after moving to the Coast for a job promotion. Wright had been promoted to the position of supervisory transportation security officer at the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. She had worked her way up from an entry-level position as a screener at security checkpoints.

If he did the crime, and a jury says he did, then should do the time.

Wondering if AFSD's have background checks? TSA claims that background checks give enough confidence to not screen these people.

Wouldn't it be a little difficult to be an AFSD without a SIDA? (Not that that means they'd actually get a background check, either...) Why didn't any of the SPOTniks catch the guy before the murder?

Doesn't make much difference if it's allegedly being performed by the TSA, does it?

Unfortunately they already promoted someone to his position. His new position will be bent over a prison bunk as someone's wife.
