Thankfully, the maple syrup marketeers are already researching alternatives ...

    The Globe & Mail:
What to give clients: Maple syrup, or a goat?

If you haven't yet learned to put your socks away, you will soon enough.

As an added bonus, if you're not very hungry, the goat will finish off not only your pancakes but the paper plate, too.

That was pretty much my reaction. Global strategic syrup reserve?? Who knew? And how is maple syrup 'strategic'?

I'm not a fan of maple syrup so maybe it's just me being defective. :p

Ringo is an awesome author. Two Gun and his cut down .50 cals, always struck me as a fun chacter.

Either the loss is down to 6M pounds or they've only tracked 60% of it. Whichever it is, four vile thieves who would steal your breakfast are now behind bars, and four other scoundrels are on the LAM.

ABC News: Cops: Thieves Steal 6M Pounds of Syrup

    Talk about a sticky mess.

The Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers believe several million cans of stolen maple syrup may be sitting on U.S. grocery shelves.

Quebec police arrested four men in connection with the robbery of 6 million pounds of maple syrup stolen from a Canadian warehouse in a heist spanning just under a year.

The thieves managed to steal the sticky substance from a warehouse in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford between August 2011 and July of this year. The stolen syrup tops out at $18 million in total market value.

    yes, odd eh?

A high profile case indeed, with all those outfits involved. I love the investigator's name in the article: Trepanner. What a great name. Trepanning.

A little soundbite from Texas editors who enjoy their brekkie ...

Dallas Morning News: Hits and Misses (Dec 21 2012)

Sticky-fingered thieves no match for the Mounties

Do the Mounties always get their man? They do if he and his compatriots steal 6 million pounds of treasured maple syrup worth about $18 million. So a tip of the Dudley Do-Right hat to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, who worked with Quebec police and U.S. and Canadian border and immigration agencies to nail four men believed to have participated in the syrup theft from August 2011 to July of this year. Quebec province produces about 80 percent of the world’s maple syrup, and it’s a commodity so valuable that Canada stores what it doesn’t sell in its International Strategic Reserve. Trust us that a shortage would have serious breakfast consequences here in the U.S., so our pancakes thank you for your service.
