Not just TSOs. Police are in on the thefts as well.

An off duty police officer making $86K/yr took a passenger's iPad from a TSA Checkpoint Charlie.

Watch your stuff. No one else will. Make a stink if you can't see your stuff. Get loud. The clerks don't like loud noises.

Not just police, but airline employees! I recall numerous incidents at LAX, in particular one on the air cargo side where they were moving high tech electronics out to the curb side and being put into a truck! Passenger bags would fall open and things could end up missing. Some would even open bags when in the cargo pits of aircraft and go through in search of valuables.
