I was not previously familiar with this speech. In it, which appears to have taken place sometime in January '11, President Obama called Bush's anti-terrorism policies a "mess". And then went on to say that he would be creating a separate regime, outside of the courts and existing Constitutional protections, to detain people for future, suspected crimes of terrorism.

    I'm not making this up.

I know. It's obscene. What's been going on in this country for at least the past 11 years is obscene.

Increasing pressure on civil liberties and clamping down on freedoms at the same time as economic conditions make people desperate and resistant.

that's a formula for an explosion, is it not? The least intelligent people in America are leading it.

Ugh. And thanks to Obama, we now have "targeted killing" too. This really is obscene.

Being the liberal girl that I am, I voted for him in 2008. I remember thinking that finally, finally we were out of the nightmare that was was the Bush presidency. Obama said all of the right things in his campaign, but I remember being uneasy about what he didn't say. He never spoke about privacy and civil liberties. Never. The only thing anyone had to go on was his vote on FISA. He voted the wrong way. After his FISA vote, I had doubts about him. I wish that the media had probed more deeply about his views on civil liberties back then. I would have still voted for him - the prospect of McCain/Palin (mostly Palin) in the White House was too horrifying to contemplate for very long.

But what about now? Can I vote for this man in good conscious? I'm really not sure that I can. He's worse than Bush on civil liberties - and I never thought that could even be possible!

And yeah, #ows can derail his campaign.

I'm voting for my cat, Bennie. No joke. I'm going to write in his name. Both parties are hopeless, I won't vote for Obama and I won't vote for whoever the Republicans come up with. Of all my cats, Bennie is the most qualified. I'm even going to print up flyers for him.

    I'm in the same conundrum.

I had planned to mark a huge "X" across my ballot and write "No Confidence in Any of These People".

It may not get seen, but at least I'll feel better when I'm done.

Who knows...the way things are going, due process, the courts, civil liberties, the constitution...I wouldn't be surprised if our dear leader declares a constitutional crisis and appoints himself POTUS for generations...

I think he wants out NOW.
The man has no stomach for this. He thought he'd be orchestrating his parousia right about now...
