http://tsaabusestory.blogspot.com/2011/07/if-you-want-to-know-what-to-expect-when.html From recent reports, it sounds to me as if the Phoenix PD and the TSA are in cahoots.
PD invites false sexual assault charges to be brought against Yukari Miyamae, but a passenger can't file a complaint?
This will all continue, all over the country, and will only get worse, as long as people put up with it. As long as people are more concerned with getting on their flights than with making a stink, this abuse will continue. And as I keep saying, it's going to have to get a lot worse before it gets better. I look back at stuff I wrote a year ago, with commenters chiming in, "oh, this won't stand," "people won't put up with it," "I think we've come to a turning point," blah blah blah. No, we haven't, I kept saying. People will put up with it. Watch. And here we are. It's all too depressing.
Comment left at that story: In the old days I would ask why they let their 13-year-old daughter travel alone. I don't anymore. I've given up.
It's been many, many years ago but when I was a young high schooler I flew without parents from LAX to DAL. Of course in those days there was no TSA in fact no security that I recall. Everyone could go to the gate and the airlines acted like they really wanted you as a customer. Our society has really deteriorated over the years.
I have no problem with a 13 year old flying alone, but what bothers me is that the parent(s) seemingly did not accompany her to the checkpoint and stay with her until she cleared.
I should clarify: what I meant by "old days" was when the stories of abuse first starting getting out. So those "old days" were only a year ago. Back then, I questioned why anyone would allow their child to travel alone knowing that said child could be abused, plus have no one there to advocate for him/her. In the true "old days" -- before the TSA began its reign of molestation, of course I had no problem understanding how a 13-year-old would travel alone.
Scroll down at this entry at Elliott Blog to see how the know-nothings are raking Sommer Gentry over the coals. People in this country are disgusting. I know Sommer. She was sexually assaulted by the TSA. It has totally changed her life. And she's no shrinking violet. But the number of scum responding to her -- under cowardly internet aliases, of course -- is sickening. Discredit, mock, ridicule, discredit again -- that's SOP for apologists and deniers. I can't stand these people. http://www.elliott.org/blog/case-dismissed-no-id-no-flight/
With regard to the Phoenix PD, fill up your saltshaker & chew on this: http://www.badphoenixcops.com/ & their associated blog: http://badphoenixcops.blogspot.com/ Enjoy!
Wow - this is so visceral and yet I loved reading just bits and pieces. Where do you find this stuff Mike?
I've been aware of it for 2-3 years. One of my other projects (somewhat neglected) is a vB-based forum on police misconduct.
Then you must be a fan of the work of my friend Radley Balko, who does some of the most careful and important work on police misconduct.
