Contact the seller & offer to buy it at that price if the buyer doesn't perform. These sales often fall through. Skids like that are expensive to ship on trucks -- lots of wasted space that can't be piled to the top w/ boxes.

If you had that, you could test & demo sneaking things through until you start growing extra appendages.

This sale would also seem to represent significant government waste -- what's the original cost of this equipment?

  5. So, maybe stating the obvious here, but what sense does it make for the TSA to be all secretive about their machinery if it's possible to buy one on Ebay?

I wish they'd auction off its former operator as well. Maybe some Turkish salt mine would buy him and work the crap out of him....

You mean it's soo SSI that it's on eBay. Reverse psychology!

I think this should be kept SSI among ourselves for the time being. Let's see if Jon can purchase (I'll help) this one or another and conduct his tests before going public.

Would anyone be willing to take delivery for one of these things? I don't really have a place to put it at the moment. ;) Would be happy to pay for it, though...

I don't have a place for it or I would. I'll chip in though.

I would but the skids wouldn't fit upright under my garage door, nor do I have a loading dock to take it off a truck.

A commercial storage unit would be your best bet. We could probably also network here & through that "other place" and find someone closer than here (Minneapolis) to take delivery.

Does anyone know the current draw & voltage requirements of these units? For my RV I have a pair of 2000W Honda generators that can be paralleled to put out 4000W clean enough for electronics. It would be fun to put these on a flatbed or in a panel truck & set up near an airport: See Your Mama Naked Just Like TSA Does! :D

I think it's overseas and would require a cruise or a flight. :D

Backscatter or MM wave? Backscatter right?

This means we can finally test one.

These were also seen on the GSA auction site a few months ago; there's probably more where they came from.

I'm just a little curious why these devices would include a broadband router unless there was a plan to send some kind of data somewhere.

If you looked at the pictures of the E-bay listing, you would have noticed the Windows packaging. It would appear that front & back scanning units are two identical units that probably communicate with the PC over ethernet, hence the router. That would also be how they set up the remote peep show rooms.

What this says (if confirmed) is that there's nothing particularly secure about the scanners & their communications.
