Running background checks doesn't make for good theater, like waving magic paper strips over people's drinks on the concourse.

I really don't see the need for a background check for a person getting private pilot training. However, once they embark on the path of commercial pilot training then I could see a possible need to do a check. Regardless that check should be by the FAA, the people who issue certifcates.
