Pasadena Star News: Robert Rector: Turnabout on TSA fair play

This op-ed is yet another indication that resistance & civil disobedience of TSA is becoming socially acceptable. :)

The premise of the editorial is awesome.

Sadly, it appears that people think the ATR technology will be their saviour:

In my opinion, it will either be set so high as to increase gropings, or so low with the intent to decrease them which will then produce far more false negatives than exist even today.

TSA has shown time and time again a gross incompetence in implementing effective security protocols, and an amazing misunderstanding of their own technology. They seem to gleefully accept any snake oil brought their way, so long as they hear what they want to hear. Based on my own knowledge of how imaging technology works, they simply don't understand how to correctly test this equipment, and they certainly don't understand how it really works in the real world.

That's a fairly common attitude. When the gropings continue, many people will see through it.

What bothers me more is that this "stick figure" technology was not supposed to be sufficiently accurate by now. I suspect they are rolling it out at this time (ready or not) to avoid the increasing pushback from people who are fed up with being viewed in the peep-show booths. This is not only just another act in their security theater but a subtle confirmation that our resistance works.

That, and it tells me the damn things don't work anyway.

Indeed the recent evaluations in the EU concluded that it didn't.
