in order to be moved to larger airports to replace backscatter. A great comment here: Oops, I forgot one of the links: http://tinyurl.com/aamt2lt Bad news: it would seem the WTMD will now be accompanied by an enhanced pat down for all passengers: Another great quote from a second article: http://www.ktvq.com/news/helena-airport-losing-full-body-scanner/
Did a computer write that article? It's so weak on details. The WTMD will be accompanied by patdowns? What does that mean? Everybody gets a patdown or a patdown if you alarm or are randomly chosen?
Is Helena airport director Ron Mercer heavily invested in the scanner manufacturers, or is he just an idiot?
I went through a WTMD only at DFW this past Sunday. No pat down though people who alarmed did get a pat down. I would bet that's how it would be done at WTMD only airports. In fact that is what some of us have called a more reasonable screening plan.
However, it's been reported at the other place that more and more people going through WTMD are being pulled aside for a pat down even if the WTMD didn't alarm. I think TSA is going to have to do that in order to cover their a**es after so vehemently proclaiming that scanners are the be-all and end-all of security, but then pulling them out of certain airports.
And yet, there are airports where there have never been scanners where you only get a patdown for the usual handful of reasons: random, alarmed the WTMD, baggy clothes, etc. I guess terrorists don't go to those airports.
The checkpoint at DFW only had a WTMD. No WBI. I think this checkpoint will be closing when that section of the terminal goes into rehab.
Don't you know? It's all about the layers in the baclava! Or security through obscurity! Or whatever the "playbook" says to do that day! That's what keeps 'em guessing, both the clerks and the terrorists. The only way we can beat the evil-doers is if you feel like you're living in a Kafka novel. That's the ONLY THING THAT WORKS, PEOPLE.
