Government Airport Screeners Are Under Siege

Disqus comments on Bloomberg story featuring Mica's desire to downsize TSA and privatize screening functions.
    Too little, too late?

I'm contemplating all the good works that could be accomplished with 60K former pedosmurfs on a chain gang. :D

I don't think there is any hysterical anti-TSA movement.

What most of us want is reasonable airport screening and reasonable does not include sexual assault, strip searches, unproven restrictions on certain states of matter, along with many other things, and in particular the uncontrolled asshat screeners who do whatever they like. TSA has completely ignored the public all while strong messages have been sent clearly stating that TSA is out of bounds on its policies.

The problem is a TSA who thinks it can do whatever it wants and seems to have forgotten that the citizens of this country still call the shots.

Fire all of the asshat TSA employees starting with the Head TSA Asshat Pistole and start fresh!

Wow...why did a vision of Joaquin Phoenix (herp a derp) Russell Crowe shouting "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?" just pop into my head?

For some reason I thought it was Caesar who said it, but thinking back, you're right, it was Maximus. Open mouth, insert foot.

Also, commented on this and the Glen Glass article. Been bad about leaving comments lately, but I think my political batteries just needed a recharge.

The "siege" metaphore is so apt -- I love it! Whatever we're doing, it's working. Let keep the pressure on & bring the siege engines up front!!!

Speaking of sieges, when I first saw the article earlier today warning of school buses being hijacked/stolen, I immediately though of the Trojan horse used to break the siege of Troy by getting through the walls and of Vergil's famous line in the Aeneid:

Quidquid id est timeo Danaos et dona ferentes.
Whatever it is, I fear the Greeks even when they are being gifts.

Our problem is smurfs, not Greeks, but let's get on with the seige.

With a bit of cleanup, I think you might have a good counterpoint here for TSA News.

I think it's the "hat" part of the word, but I could be mistaken.

If Peter King is beginning to speak out against the TSA, then we are having an impact. But we have to keep up the pressure.

...of which maybe 10K are physically qualified to do anything useful.

That will change quickly under a "no work, no food" plan.

It's telling that even King is being critical. He has been up Pistole's lower orifice since this crap* started and I've heard him blow off interviewers about the TSA groping and defend even the most heinous transgressions. If Pistole loses King he's toast.

    * pun intended

Yeah, the word "hysterical" in this context is wrong. The only hysterics are coming from the TSA, DHS, and all the other "The Terrorists Are Everywhere!" types, not from the anti-TSA crowd.

And the ones who say, "I only work for the TSA because it makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something good, but I can get another job any time I like. I just don't want to."

    I find them hysterically funny.

I had missed that. That is indeed huge:

This to me is the best indication that the outrage we feel is felt by a great many and it is crescendo-ing up to the kept women in congress. Something is yanking King's chain. Yet, what is the "clear abuses"? The invasive search up the inner thigh and the rubbing of the pubic area, butt, and breasts, the touching occasioned by terrible and invasive scanners, the molestations and baggage dumps caused by wretched ETD protocols? All of this has to go. Not just the targeting of women to put them into the backscatter to be oggled under their clothing by some trog in a booth.

The three women strip searched at JFK are in his neck of the woods. I'd say that counts as a clear abuse since it elicited an official apology.

He's in Queens, but I don't think JFK is in his district, but is pretty close. No doubt he took some heat on that locally and isn't about to lose his seat and DHS chair over Pistole's penchant for molesting people.
