Calgary Herald: Security guards at JFK threaten to walk out Dec. 20

Security guards at John F. Kennedy Airport are threatening to walk off the job this month.
The nonunion workers say they want better training and equipment. A strike-authorization vote is set for Thursday or Friday. If approved, they could walk out on Dec. 20.

The 300 workers direct traffic in front of terminals and check tarmac gates to make sure they're secure, among other duties. They work for two different companies, Air Serve and Global Elite Group.

If they are none union then who is organizing a strike vote? Let them go, easy to find others who can do simple jobs.

I hope, in the worst way, the newly-unionized TSA clerks honor the picket lines and bring JFK to its knees in front of the whole citizenry right before Christmas.

Pretty sure there is a no strike clause in the TSA union agreement. Could be a repeat of the Air Controllers except we don't have a real President in office.

That is most likely a no. I have heard no rumblings of it and there is not very much of a connection for the TSOs. Due to that, there is not much to be gained, if anything at all.

I believe (at least, I recall signing a form during initial hiring) there is a "no-strike" clause as a condition of employment prior to the Union arrival, and I have not heard of that being repealed. In fact, I believe I have heard commentary indicating that it is still a condition of employment, and is specifically mandated regardless of Union agreements now and forthcoming.

That's too bad. I'd love to see them go on strike.

I'd like to see them get struck.

    By lightning, I mean.

Too quick, too kind. I want to see them in orange jumpsuits picking up trash and mowing grass by hand along the roadsides.
