It's not TSA-related, but it's definitely airplane-and-abuse-related. Innocent woman handcuffed, taken off plane, because she's "dark"-skinned; she's "suspicious" -- hey, If You See Something, Say Something!

    P.S. Addendum:

    Milgram. Zimbardo.
I think we would do well to remember this. When you're being abused, when you're being deliberately disoriented, your sense of time goes out the window. That doesn't mean that what you say happened to you didn't happen.

This is absolutely f****** ridculous. These goons are no better than Himmler's SS.
  4. Wow. This made me sick. I hope the people who saw something and said something read her account and realize what they did. I sent it to Drudge, hope he picks it up.

I hope they get attorneys and sue their assess off royally.

Warrantless searches of her cell phone, strip searches, my blood is boiling. Is this my country?

This is what the culture of the Stasi (which DHS is hard at work implementing with "See something, say something") brings to society.

These goons & thugs have to be stopped.

  6. I wish this woman knew not to answer any questions, and to say "I don't consent to any searches." I've been drilling those phrases into my mind.

Unfortunately, since our rights have been completely eroded since 9/11 and the odious Patriot Act, they can keep you indefinitely. The days of "I know my rights, I want a lawyer" are over. "Terrorism" is the magic word. Indefinite detention is the order of the day. Only difference is that now, after years of being applied only to those whom the country deemed "undesirable," it's being applied to all of us.

    Absolutely (expletive deleted) disgusting!

I am so sick of what this country has become, and it is only going to get worse. I almost regret ever serving and defending it. If I had known this was coming, I would not have served, I would have moved. Cowards everywhere, fully buying in to the fear being sold by our government.

I'd like to see her account make it to a mainstream media outlet. This is the sort of abuse that people need to hear about.

Every person who has ever defended the DHS, who has ever been an apologist for the TSA, who has ever uttered the monumentally stupid shibboleth, “as long as it keeps us safe!” is guilty of doing this to her. And to countless others.
The 9/11 victimology of this country, fed by a complicit media, has got to stop. We are on a very dark path.

Well, I know I'm re-posting it all over creation. And I'm sure hundreds of people are doing likewise.

Not true for American citizens, and if you're smart enough to stand your ground, you'll prevail. Habeas corpus has not been suspended.

Aliens are in a different boat, but the legal process still applies. The trick is retaining and staying in touch with an attorney as they move you around and try to make you inaccessible.

I'm just livid. My supervisor is a Pakistani native (U.S. citizen). His supervisor is from India (alien). In my ~15 years here I've worked with countless people (both citizens, natural & naturalized, and aliens) in/from Pakistan, Lebanon, India, China, Singapore, Russia as well as "whiter" countries such as Sweden, Germany, the UK, etc. These are all normal people. You can't tell a thing about anyone by his/her color.

  13. I know, but I wish she didn't cooperate. We shouldn't cooperate with this stuff.

I think in theory habeas corpus hasn't been suspended, but in practice it often has. Glenn Greenwald has written a lot about this. I'm not a lawyer, and they parse things with a scalpel; I don't remember enough of the ins and outs off-hand and don't want to give out wrong information. Will go do some digging.

I believe that if she hadn't, things would've gone worse for her. I believe they would have stripped her themselves, for one thing. Cops do this to people even without "terrorism" lurking over the proceedings. She said one of the first guys she talked to was belligerent. They can get a lot more belligerent very quickly.

This makes me sick. Our country is run by rotten cowards and fools, every one of whom insists that he or she is "only doing their duty."

What the eff is wrong with people?

Oh, I think I figured it out:

Three brown people in a single row together.

So, let me see if I understand this. These people were on a plane. Ergo, they had presumably gone through "security" and shouldn't have any guns, bombs, or anything of danger on them at all. So why is this response even remotely appropriate:

With testimonials like this, as the evidence of SS/Stasi-style behavior accumulates, I wonder if we could pressure local governments to shun cooperation with DHS?

I would think we're reaching the point we some communities where more progressive/liveral politicians predominate, and they might be amenable to such pressure.

I doubt it. They're getting big grants from DHS. That's why there are so many truly stupid procedures being implemented at the local level all over the place -- because suddenly there's money for all this crap.
